Please please read this it is literally so important. The world is in a crisis, and we're literally wasting so much of the work we've been doing. Imagine how much stuff could get done with a little added efficency. Below is an embedded post from tumblr user science-junkie.

This is an ode to Tumblr,
For helping me waste my day
with not quite entertainment
in a pleasing arrangement
I can scroll my worries away
This is an ode to Tumblr,
It's just so much better than twitter
The humor is dumb
I've overused my thumb
But alas
I really love jokes that are bitter
This is an ode to Tumblr,
Who's users pretend to be politically knowledgeable
yes you've taught me some
but you call people scum
and I would call that abominable
This is an ode to Tumblr,
Thank you for the art inspiration
Although I never do much
never get out a paintbrush
and then I get angry at not thinking of that one really cool idea........or even a proper syllable or rhyme placement...
This is an ode to Tumblr,
You've got your good sides and bad
Yet I can't imagine a way
Since that fateful 7th grade day
That I could possibly quit my account
On Why You Should Always Get Clothes Used
Monday, April 13, 2015
Excited because I found this sweater in a free box? Like how cool is that? This is a nice freaking sweater for finding in a free box. It's a bad picture but it's super soft and well fitting and it's a nicer color than in the picture
Anyways, I thought I'd talk about how much better it is for everybody to buy (or find) your clothes new.
Whether you're talking about your wallet, the environment, all the people that the product went through to be made, conservation of all the resources in the actual product (I think you get the idea), buying used is pretty much always the better option. Not to mention thrift shopping is just more fun! You feel better ethically about your purchases, and it's more fun to sift through all the weird stuff you find.
- Decomposing fabric can release methane into the air, and chemicals such as dies or retardants in to the ground.
- if all of the textile waste we normally generate in a year didn't end up at the landfill, we would be looking at a savings of $375 million dollars in fees alone!
- Cotton growing takes a about a quarter of the pesticides used in the U.s. Pesticides are linked to a lot of different nasty things, including colony collapse disorder, a pandemic in the bee population. In case you didn't know, bees pollinate flowers, and are incredibly crucial to the environment and our food department and entire way of life.
- According to the U.S. National Labor Committee, workers, manufacturing YOUR clothes halfway across the world in sweatshops that YOU don't have to loo at, can make as little as 12 to 18 cents an hour.
- The 15% of discarded clothing/fabric that is recycled, prevents about 2.5 billion pounds of waste from going directly to the waste stream.
- Since clothes from most popular stores are so cheaply made nowadays (forever 21, h&m, such and such), they often end up being unusable by the time they pass through the first user and get to a thrift shop. Only about 1/5th of clothes donations are actually sold. However, they can sell them to textile recycling factories, so don't think that there isn't a use for even your really old clothes!
I must admit, my closet is overflowing with cheap mall clothes. I'm an incredibly hypocritical person. It happens. But I'm really going to try to stop supporting the cheap plastic world of fast fashion and consumerism. Isn't it kind of strange that we have to use effort for inaction? Self control is a hard one me for me. You kind of just have to keep the goal of a happier of world in mind.
Anyways, just remember, everything you do effects nothing else, so try to make your decisions wisely. Living a life with a smaller footprint doesn't have to be boring. You just have to have a little bit of self control and be a bit more creative!

Busyness
Sunday, March 08, 2015
I've been quite busy this past week, so I'm rushing out this post with my eyes drooping, and it won't be the best or longest post I can do. Sorry about that. Anyways, I'll just do a quick run through of my day, and then go to bed. The first thing I did this morning after a shower and breakfast was get myself to school. It was a Sunday, but the State Championships for robotics was being held at my school, and my Acapella group was set to sing the National Anthem. I went okay. I certainly didn't sound amazing, but my voice is soft and it blends well enough with the other singers in the group, so I wasn't mortified by my lacking performance.
I came home ad got straight to my first English assignment. Everyday after school, I've had track or Acapella, and then felt obligated to train at home, so I left almost all of my homework for the weekend. Specifically all for Sunday. When I was done with the first assignment, which took way longer than it should have, my eyes hurt from staring at a screen and I took my dog for a walk. I never have been good at sitting all day. Since I couldn't jog, (I may have stress fractured my foot) I took pictures while I was out. None are particularly good, but I might as well share them.
(By the way, always take the time to care for your pets! I'm guilty
of not being a perfect pet owner, but I've been getting better.)
I just really liked this house
dog and god having the same letters is probably not a coincidence
Portland's nice because you have a park about every 2 blocks
After that, I finished up homework and all of my last minute essays to apply for a couple of Summer internships. I'll talk about those later.
Other updates on my life: For Lent, the 40 days before Easter, I've given up sugar, and been attempting to do Yoga every day. Neither have been perfect, but life is never about being perfect, so I haven't allowed my messups to stop me from continuing the practice. Too often I hear people say how they couldn't follow a practice perfectly, so they shouldn't try at all. The most common example: I tried to be a vegetarian once... for a week. They messed up once, after suddenly cutting something out so suddenly the whole practice isn't worth it? Just cutting back on your meat intake is such an good thing to do for the planet. There's never any shame in not fully commiting. IDK, that's just a pet peeve of mine. Sorry if I just shamed someone, you're still probably an amazing person.
I'm very tired, which is why I've gotten even more rambly than usual. Night lovely people.

500 Knives
As some of you may know, my Dad is currently not working. He was diagnosed with MDS, a type of blood cancer. The cancer is all gone now, but his health has yet to return to it's prime. In his time at home, he's gotten into all sorts of different projects, the most recent of which is knife making. Before you get all judgmental, I want you to take a look at some of these things. Have you seen an artfully designed knife? They're absolutely gorgeous.
They can look like this Or this
They can look like CRICKETS! Or maybe lions are more your speed?
My dad checked a book out of the library on artistic knives such as this. It's simply called 500 Knives, by Lark Books. One artist in particular: Tom Ferrero, caught my eye.
Look at this thing! It doesn't even look like a knife!

And ooooh look at this one how cool is that.

And I've got no clue what this is Idk man I just think this stuff looks really cool

Anyways, I hope that none of you ever get turned away from an activity because it's not conventional, or widely participated in. Just to it. If you do it well, it'll turn out amazing no matter what it is. I hope you all have a lovely day, and I have a dare for you: Try something new. That's it, :)
